Disaster is all around us these days, from the cyclone in Myanmar to the earthquake in China, not to mention the tornadoes and floods in the United States. So why aren’t most Americans ready for emergencies?

sense of complacency, a feeling that disaster on that scale isn't likely

The Uniform California Earthquake Rupture Forecast, Version 2 (UCERF 2)
This report describes a new earthquake rupture forecast for California
developed by the 2007 Working Group on California Earthquake Probabilities
(WGCEP 2007) and prepared in cooperation with the California Gelogical Survey
and the Southern California Earthquake Center.

ReadyMoms Alliance
ReadyMoms Alliance is a non-profit organization formed by a small group of parents. The organization has created the ReadyMoms Toolkit, an innovative model for promoting pandemic preparedness in the community. Unlike more conventional models, this toolkit—developed by grassroots volunteers—consists of a display of preparedness items presented as a booth exhibit in community events such as fairs or street markets. All materials are available for free download and re-use based on a creative commons license. Details can be found on the Flu Wiki forum.
